PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.
The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.
The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.
Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.
Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
