The fast bowler Poised for a Major Role in Iconic Rivalry
Pat Cummins has secured 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an impressive average.
Australia's chair of selectors George Bailey has stated that skipper Cummins will be a central figure in the upcoming Ashes series.

He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and remained hopeful about the likelihood of taking part.
"We're aware that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, not only the back issue, but other factors as well," Bailey remarked.
"It's positive. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a major part. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals in the previous weeks after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.
Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with setbacks in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in four years.
The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to make the squad for the contest.
Bailey noted that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the opener.
Backup Options
Should Cummins not be fit, veteran batsman Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.
The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and stated that he's scheduled to appear in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."
"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the initial matches in any case. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for a short period, we opted to adopt a safer strategy."
