Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the right to contest certain decisions made by the chair umpire, following the system currently in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step arrives only a season following the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review other decisions, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.

Case in Point

A recent incident took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its events.

Other Changes

A further change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
